Windcorp Brass Band wins Swedish National Championships

York congratulates Windcorp Brass Band who won the Swedish National Brass Band Championships already for the second time since the band’s foundation in 2005!

The Championships took place on November 6-7 in Värnamo in Southern Sweden and were divided into two parts as usual. On Friday night, Windcorp Brass Band made a solid performance of the set test piece "Gothic Dances" by Alan Fernie which gave them 92 points and a 1 point lead before the own choice performance on Saturday. As their own choice item the band played "Rococo Variations" by Edward Gregson and they managed to satisfy the adjudicators who awarded them 92 points. In total, there was a good 5 point margin ahead of runners-up, Stockholm Brass Band.

Garry Cutt, who directed the band to the win, was very happy with his first Swedish title. Together with Lucy Murphy from the Fairy Band who filled a vacancy on flugel horn, he has enjoyed two intensive weekends with band rehearsals preparing the contest. Garry Cutt also received the conductor’s prize for the best performance of the test piece. The relationship between Gary and WBB has been truly successful for both parties, and with Windcorp Gary is the "100 % man" after winning two contests on two attempts.

As there is a delay in the Swedish qualification process for the European Championships, this win entitles Windcorp Brass Band to attend the Europeans in 2011 in Montreaux, Switzerland.

York displayed instruments of their three ranges Prescience, Preference and Eminence at the weekend where they received a lot of positive feedback by many brass band enthusiasts who took the chance to see, try and to compare the instruments.

York is very proud of the win because Windcorp Brass Band for the first time used a complete set of York tubas this year and which once more confirms the new slogan: “Champions put their trust in York”.
